Food And Drug Administration Is Responsible For Protecting...
The majority of Americans apply products to their body multiple times a day without knowing what ingredients are in those products. Most of the products sold in the United States are considered toxic because of their ingredients. Shockingly, U.S Law states that ââ¬Å"cosmetic products and ingredients do not need Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval before they go on the marketâ⬠(Prohibited Restricted Laws). Without regulation, harmful ingredients are slipped into products. These harmful ingredients can cause dangerous side effects such as cancer, skin irritations, hormone disrupters, and more. With a push for FDA product regulation, toxic ingredients in cosmetics could eventually be prohibited in regards to our countryââ¬â¢s safety. According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration, the ââ¬Å"FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nat ionââ¬â¢s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiationâ⬠(What We Do). As a service dedicated to their citizens overall health, it seems hypocritical to allow detrimental ingredients into products sold to millions. For example, a tube of foundation could read itââ¬â¢s efficacy to cover up oneââ¬â¢s blemishes but there will be no label about the efficacy of the harmful ingredients.
